Kate Winslet

Academy Award-winning star Kate Winslet received libel damages of 25,000 pounds ($40,000) Tuesday over claims that she openly lied about her workout routine.

In January the 34-year-old Brit had sued Associated Newspapers for publishing an article in the Daily Mail newspaper titled “Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world’s most irritating actress?”

The mean-spirited piece alleged that Winslet had been lying when she revealed that she doesn’t frequent a gym, but rather keeps her body in shape by exercising for 20 minutes a day at home.

The newspaper finally printed an apology in September, and accepted the fact that Winslet was telling the truth.

"I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy,” she said in a statement.

Good for you Kate, we couldn’t agree more! (New York Daily News)

Good for her! I love Kate, I've never thought she was irritating that's so strange to me.
