Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped at 14 and held against her will for 9 long months, took to the stand Thursday to face her alleged captor for the first time since returning to her grief-stricken family.

The now 21-year-old was taken from her bedroom in June of 2002 by Brian David Mitchell, who is accused of abducting Smart and turning her into a polygamous wife to fulfill a religious prophecy. He is also accused of raping her.

In 2003 an unnamed individual spotted Mitchell and his spouse, 63-year-old Wanda Eileen Barzee, walking with the victim in a Salt Lake City suburb, and shortly after Smart was reunited with her loved ones.

Wanda has since sent letters to the young woman’s mother, apologizing for any pain she may have caused. However, she refused to give details as to what exactly happened over the course of those nine months.

Mitchell, indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor in 2008, will be present at a 10-day day competency hearing on November 30. (FOXNews.com)
