PopEater is reporting that Direct TV is in hot water for bringing Chris Farley back from the dead - so to speak - in their new ad campaign.
Viewers are presently calling the video ‘tasteless’ and ‘insensitive,’ despite the fact that the company has used dead celebs to hype their products in the past (last year they featured Heather O' Rourke in The Poltergeist … she passed away in 1988).
In this new ad actor David Spade appears with Farley, who unfortunately died in 1997 of heart failure. Due to the current controversy Asylum contacted Spade via his publicist to get his take on the matter.
"When DIRECT TV came to me and the Farley family with this idea about Tommy Boy, we talked and thought it would be a cool way to remind people just how funny Chris was,” Spade stated. “It is a clever homage to my friend and a movie that we loved doing.”
Direct TV believes that we should look to Farley’s next of kin for the “ultimate opinion on this subject.”
