Carmen Huertas, who was allegedly intoxicated upon piling seven young girls into her sedan on Sunday following a birthday party in Chelsea, continued to drive recklessly even after the children begged her to slow down.

On Monday the mother of 11-year-old Kayla Fernandez (who thankfully survived) spoke with the New York Post about the horrifying incident that left one child dead and two others badly injured. “As they were driving, her own daughter [Brittany] said, 'Mommy, slow down!'” Melody Sanchez stated. "And [Huertas] said, 'If you think this is bad, wait until we get on the highway.’”

Carmen, 31, said she only cared about the well being of her 1-year-old daughter (who was not in the vehicle), which is incredibly eerie as her other child Brittany was present.

"All the kids, including my daughter, said she was saying, 'If you think I'm going to crash, raise your hand,'” Sanchez continued.

Huertas soon lost control of her 1998 Mercury Sable, which flipped over several times on the Henry Hudson Parkway. Authorities discovered that she had a blood-alcohol-level of .13, 1 ½ times the legal limit. She was charged with manslaughter, DWI and assault, and is currently holed up at the Harlem Hospital with a broken arm.

The father of Leandra Rosado - who died in the crash - added that people saw Carmen drinking at the party, and that if anyone allowed her to drive drunk “they’ll be held accountable.” (The New York Post)
