Betty on the News: Breast Cancer Groups Slam New Mammogram Recommendations
The American Cancer Society and other groups strongly disagree with the new government mammogram recommendations.

The new mammogram guidelines by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force have made headlines this week, especially with the recommendation that women age 40 to 49 no longer need to have regular mammograms.

Advocacy and prevention groups such as the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation have released statements noting that they disagree with the new guidelines and will continue to recommend mammograms to women, 40 and up.

However, both sides can agree on one thing at least: that formal self-exams are not as important as women simply being more “aware of their breasts” and noticing any changes. (CNN)
