Onetime House Republican Whip Tom DeLay proved that he can groove with the best of them during Monday night’s season premiere of Dancing with the Stars.

The 62-year-old conservative wowed viewers when he took to the stage with partner Cheryl Burke and performed the cha-cha to the popular 1960s tune “Wild Thing.”

“I have to say I nailed it - I did!" he told Usmagazine.com after the performance. "I felt good, my hips were working. Cheryl held me up, and I really nailed it."

Burke was equally as enthusiastic that night. "When we were dancing together, he was all about it,” she said of her partner’s skills. “He was all in character, and he had a lot of fun, so Tom surprised me the most. I wasn't laughing at him, but I was laughing, enjoying the moment. I couldn't believe it!"

Though former teen crooner Aaron Carter took home the gold by scoring 32 out of 40, it was DeLay and Burke who truly sizzled. (Usmagazine.com)
