DIY Face Moisturizer

Winter is officially here. My lips are chapped and my face is unusually dry thanks to the cold temperatures and strong winds. Like many  women, I’m on the hunt for  skin care that will bring back my dewy skin, but doesn’t contain chemical ingredients that can cause  breakouts or, make me look oily.

Return to Beauty

This year, I think I’ll try making my own right in my kitchen using recipes from Narine Nikogosian’s new book, Return to Beauty: Old World Recipes for Great Radiant Skin ($25, Atria Books).

Nikogosian is one of the most popular aestheticians at Ole Henriken’s Face/Body salon in Los Angeles, and she’s tended  the skin of  beautiful stars like Jessica Alba and Charlize Theron.  I’m going to re-create her tangerine dream moisturizer, because as she explains in her book it will refresh and reenergize my flaky winter skin.

Here’s Nikogosian’s recipe for a DIY Tangerine Dream Moisturizer:

¼ tangerine, peel and pith removed

1 tablespoon sour cream

½ teaspoon flour

1 teaspoon rose oil

Preparation: In a blender, combine the tangerine, sour cream, flour, and oil. Mix Well.

Application: Apply this to your face every morning and evening after cleansing.

Has anyone tried this? Does the sour cream make your face break out or is it ok? Would love not to have to pay so much $ for moisturizer!
