
The study of 704 women, all expecting their first child, focused on the advancement of Metabolic Syndrome, a pre-diabetes condition, in the two decades following the births.
Breastfeeding lowered the risk by between 38 and 56 percent depending on how long it continued, according to the discoveries published in the journal Diabetes.
Dr. Erica Gunderson, who works for a Kaiser Permanente branch in California, was unsure how breastfeeding affects the diabetes risk factors as the effects didn’t appear to be due to variations in physical activity, weight gain or personal lifestyle. (Daily Mail)
