A film about the life of Prince Harry could be coming to a movie theater near you in the next few years. Currently in pre-production, the movie, tentatively titled The Spare, will be based on the life of the 25-year-old prince, and although a screenplay won’t be finished until the end of the year, director Peter Kosminsky and his producers David Aukin and Hal Vogel are already thinking of actors to play the ginger-haired Harry. British actors Aaron Johnson, Harry and Luke Treadaway, and Rupert Friend have already made the short-list, but Kosminsky won’t rule out casting an American either.
“Think of Gwyneth Paltrow in Shakespeare In Love,” he said. “I think it's reasonable that we don't want to rule out Americans, although there's a very strong cadre of British actors, too.”
Kosminsky told the U.K.’s Daily Mail that he was drawn to the project about Prince Harry because of a “sense of compassion for the guy.”
“His parents break up in the most spectacularly public way, his mother dies in the most tragic and, again, public way and everything is picked over. He's a man born to no role, the heir and the spare,” he said. (Daily Mail)
