Tug of war was once introduced as an Olympic sport, so does that mean every unconventional activity should get the same chance to shine?
Pole dancing enthusiasts are hoping the International Olympic Committee will soon classify the popular exercise routine as a sport, and allow dancers to compete in the 2012 games.
“After a great deal of feedback from the pole dance community, many of us have decided that it’s about time pole fitness is recognized as a competitive sport, and what better way for recognition than to be part of the 2012 Olympics held in London,” stated KT Coates, a prominent pole dancer in Britain and director of Vertical Dance. “It has the wow factor.”
