Top Chef’s resident model and author Padma Lakshmi confirmed through a rep that she is pregnant with her first child.

Lakshmi suffers from endometriosis, which means the tissue that makes up the lining of the uterus develops outside the uterus. The condition can sometimes lead to infertility, and can make conception very difficult for women.

The model’s rep says her doctor called the pregnancy “a medical miracle” and asked that the public and the press respect her privacy.

Lakshmi has not revealed who the father is. She was married to controversial novelist Salman Rushdie for three years, but the marriage ended in 2007.
