Kors hits the mark, eBay–yes, eBay–offers the unconventional
-Jennifer Goodkind, co-host of A Fashionable Life
To be in fashion and stay in step with the beat of this economy is challenging since no one knows when consumer confidence will be restored.
Michael Kors was the first show that hit every note on key and in tune with what his customer will want to wear.
The Kors tableau was beautiful in mostly black: Dresses with thigh-high slits that conjure the image of the Kors working woman who wants to transition from office to dinner.
Pops of neon pinks and yellow (think Steven Sprouse) in dresses and scarves, along with fur hats, added to Kors’s dramatic ’80s vibe.
The overall impression of his look is sleek and paired down (the makeup was very natural), with a statement necklace of large gold links that added a little heavy metal throughout the show.
Kors’s suits and coats were a nod to the working woman and looked a little like pieces Michelle Obama might embrace this fall?…
ebay is to online shopping what LA’s Fred Segal is to brick-and-mortar retail. Think small venues each owned and run by individuals with a distinct point of view. The collective result: eBay a merchandise mix that is both broad and specific that lets you often find often one-of-a-kind items that reflect the shop owner’s passion, taste and style. Constance White, ebay’s style director, has been instrumental in crafting ebay’s significant role as a top fashion site on the web.
The newest eBay collaboration for Fashion Week is with innovative, womens- and menswear designer Yigal Azrouel. With an eye toward giving back, Azrouel and eBay are holding a charity sale of the designer’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Proceeds will benefit Natural Resources Defense Council.
Others to check out on eBay: Denise Zeide’s Magnificent Vintage, an eclectic mix of vintage clothes from all over the world; Ricky’s Exceptional Treasures, Ricky Serbin’s (he is a costume jewelry designer who has worked with Marc Jacobs, Oscar De la Renta and other major fashion powerhouses) collection of vintage fashion from Dior to Alaia.
Jennifer Goodkind is the co-host, with Jayne Chase, of A Fashionable Life (fashionableliferadio.com). They are fashion reporters for ABC News NOW, where they cover the red carpet, Fashion Week and the business of fashion.
