New details have emerged about the life of Susan Powell, the 28-year-old Utah wife and mother of two who disappeared from her home on December 7th. According to Fox News, police in West Valley City, a suburb of Salt Lake City, have grown more suspicious of husband Joshua Powell, who reportedly left at 12:30 a.m. on the night of her disappearance to take their two sons, ages 2 and 4, to go camping in the freezing wilderness. He also reportedly logged hundreds of miles in a rental car two days after Susan was reported missing.

Friends have since revealed to the Salt Lake Tribune that Susan had thought about leaving her husband in the year before her disappearance and even put together a plan in case he tried to kidnap her sons. She ultimately decided to stay with Joshua, a decision that may or may not have cost her her life.

Family members of Joshua Powell, however, are claiming that he has been vilified in the press.

"The whole thing has just turned into a vilification of Josh and it will turn into a vilification of me, my ex-wife and my other kids," said Steven Powell, Joshua’s father. "I'm not making any statement because it doesn't matter how benign it is or how supportive it is. Somebody will twist it around." (Fox News)
