Our L.A. correspondent Carrie Seim was LIVE at the Oscars last night and we were streaming live video from right here to Betty! Here's a recap of the night from Carrie:

It was so incredible to be on the red carpet, speaking with Garey Busey, Chevy Chase, Gloria Allred, Martin Landeau and so many other amazing actors and actresses. It was clear that everyone on the red carpet was cheering for artistic success (OK, one or two might have been cheering on their own sexually explicit HBO special, but we were in Hollywood, after all!)

I was pleasantly surprised by Sean Penn's Best Actor win -- it was well deserved and he gave a wonderfully entertaining and important acceptance speech. And Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona -- well done! One of the funniest/sexiest films of our time and she is truly deserving. I'm also thrilled as can be about Slumdog -- what an amazing hope-against-hope story. Both in terms of the screenplay narrative as well as the narrative of the film production itself. Can you believe this film struggled to find distribution? Okay, yes, we can all believe that. But now, how much sweeter is its victory? And how wonderful that the world has chosen, once again this year, to believe in hope over cynicism.
