Daily Dish: Larry David Slammed for Urinating on Jesus Painting

The comedian angers Christians in new episode of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.'

HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm is getting all kinds of bad press due to an episode shown Sunday in which comedian Larry David peed on a portrait of Jesus Christ.

Critics and Christians alike are outraged by what they consider to be an over-the-top mocking of religion and belief.

"I don't think it's funny," Deal Hudson, publisher and author of InsideCatholic.com, told Foxnew.com. "Why is it that people are allowed to publicly show that level of disrespect for Christian symbols? If the same thing was done to a symbol of any other religions -- Jewish or Muslim -- there'd be a huge outcry. It's simply not a level playing field."

During the latest installment of the popular show David uses a restroom in his assistant’s home and proceeds to splash urine on a picture of Jesus. And rather than wiping if off, he decides to simply leave it.

Due to the current outcry HBO released the following statement:

"Anyone who follows Curb Your Enthusiasm knows that the show is full of parody and satire. Larry David makes fun of everyone, most especially himself. The humor is always playful and certainly never malicious."
