Poor John Edwards. No one wants to sit next to him in the lunchroom. According to a new poll by the firm Public Policy Polling, only 15 percent of voters in his home state of North Carolina view him in a positive light. That, says the surveyors, makes Edwards the “most unpopular person we've polled anywhere at any time.”

It’s not surprising that the public holds such a low opinion of Edwards, who famously fathered a love child while cheating on his cancer-stricken wife while running for President of the United States. What is interesting is that men (75 percent) have a slightly more UNfavorable opinion of him than women (68 percent). Maybe the $400 haircut really put it over the top for the guys.

Explaining why John Edwards beats out even cheaters like John Ensign (R-Nev.), pollster Tom Jensen explains that Republicans are more willing to forgive cheaters in their own party. “What we find is that Republicans will forgive you for cheating on your wife as long as you are a Republican,” said Jensen. “Democrats are not forgiving Edwards.”
