James Van Der Beek Spills the Beans on a Dawson’s Creek Reunion
BettyConfidential caught up with the star on the set of NBC’s Mercy.
Will there be a Dawson’s Creek reunion? This was the question we most wanted to ask James Van Der Beek when we caught up with him on the set of his new medical drama Mercy, where he’ll be starring in an eight-episode arc as a brilliant but arrogant doctor with a dark secret.
But way before Katie Holmes was Mrs. Tom Cruise, or Michelle Williams was Heath Ledgers’ baby mama, or Joshua Jackson was on JJ Abrams’ Sci-fi show Fringe, they starred alongside James on Dawson’s Creek, the teen drama that catapulted each of them to stardom.
Instead of focusing on rich kids a la Beverly Hills 90210, the 1998-2003 series centered around James, as Dawson Leery, a Steven Spielberg-obsessed romantic, and his three friends: Joey (Katie), the girl-next-door who’d climb through his window to spend the night in the most G-rated way possible; his screw-up of a best pal Pacey (Joshua), who was unlucky with the ladies on-screen, but his character stole all the girls’ hearts off-screen with his wit and charm; and Jen (Michelle), the big city girl who got a little too wild so her parents forced her to live with her grandmother in the kids’ fictional town of Capeside. The show instantly became a mega-hit — and is still a ratings winner in reruns on the Soap Net.
