How to Make Up Your Face in Five Minutes
An expert’s time-saving tips for instant glam.
Oops, you did it again — you overslept. And now you have just five minutes and counting to go from scary zombie to fresh-faced beauty before you run out the door. Can it be done? Sure thing, says celebrity makeup artist Darac, who’s known as “America’s Beauty Coach,” and is the founder of the Darac Beauty cosmetics line. Read on for his essential tips for looking great when the clock is ticking.
Step One: The Brows
“Getting your brows in order is the most important thing you can do to look polished and pristine,” says Darac. “It makes such a difference.” Why? He says that beauty is based on the symmetry of the face — the more symmetrical your features are, the more beautiful you look. And the eyebrows are the easiest place to gain more symmetry in your face.
To keep yours looking their best, Darac advises first brushing the brows down, which makes it easy to see where you need to fill in. Then touch up any sparse spots with a brow pencil, like the one included in Darac’s own Brow Trio ($21.82, qvc.com), and then brush the hairs back up.
Step Two: Concealer
Unless you want to look like someone desperately in need of a coffee — or perhaps a trip to the dermatologist — add concealer to your on-the-go morning routine. Darac recommends applying concealer under the eyes, around the base of the nose, along the edges of the lip, and over the divets that are found at the inner corner of the eyes closest to the nose; that’s where shadows tend to form.
“You want that whole eye area to be light, bright, alive and pristine,” he says. You can also use concealer as an impromptu foundation, blending it in over any skin imperfections or blemishes, or run it over your eyelids to use as an eye shadow base, it can cut down any redness on your face. “It’s like your 911 kit,” the makeup artist enthuses.
