How to Apply Foundation

Want a porcelain complexion? Try these tips.

Step 1. Before you apply any make up, first moisturize your skin. Try Pur Minerals Mineral Moisture Complex ($36, zappos.com).

Step 2. Now apply an SPF like Alba Botanical’s Fragrance Free Sunscreen SPF 115 ($9.95, albabotanica.com) to a clean face.

Step 3. After warming the foundation on the back of your hands - I like Shu Uemura Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation ($42, shuuemura-usa.com) - dot it down the center of your face with your fingers.

Step 4. Work the product away from the center of your face with a cosmetic sponge - try Makeup Masters CD Sponge Puffs ($2.94, target.com) or a foundation brush and then blend upwards then outwards and finally downwards toward the hairline, ears and jaw line. Blend any excess product with the sponge and make sure you smooth the product over jaw line and down the neck for a natural and flawless finish. Set the foundation with a translucent powder.

Nice tips! I heard foundation brushes are better than sponges though... the sponges absorb too much.

I definitely prefer using foundation brushes.

I've used them both and if I'm in a rush, I use a sponge. If I have time, I use the brush.
