The search for Andrew Koenig came to a sad end yesterday when his body was found in a heavily wooded area of Stanley Park in Vancouver. Concerned friends and family were conducting a private search of the park, an area police had previously searched, when they found him.

Koenig's father, Walter, said in a press conference held later in the park that his son had taken his own life after battling depression for quite some time. He would not reveal details of how his son, who had been missing since February 16, died.

Just the day before, Koenig's parents went on television to beg that their son call to reassure them he was OK. His Growing Pains co-stars, including Kirk Cameron, were also asking that Koenig contact them.

Former Star Trek actor Walter Koenig urged in the press conference that his son's death be a wake-up call for anyone else suffering from depression. "If you can't handle it anymore, you know, if you could learn anything from this, is that there are people out there who really care," he said. (People)
