While Kate Gosselin is competing on Dancing With the Stars, a battle is raging in Pennsylvania. The state held a hearing about child labor practices, sparked by charges that TLC and the Gosselin family illegally overworked the children on Jon & Kate Plus 8, and did not obtain work permits for any of them.
Kate’s brother Kevin Krieder and his wife Jodi testified, saying they feared the show could cause the children “psychological damage.” The couple cited a particular incident in their claim.
“The children were told it was Christmas morning. It was so that the camera crew could get the genuine reaction of the children,” Kevin said. “It wasn’t until after, later that they were told it was not Christmas morning, they just did it for the show. Can you imagine how confused eight little kids were that morning?”
We aren’t experts, but that does seem a little…well, wrong. And if the Gosselins faked Christmas morning, what else were the kids deceived about? We look forward to reading the kids’ takes on the show in 10 or 15 years – what else will come out about Jon and Kate? (Us Magazine)
