Gabourey Sidibe has a new role, and it’s very different from the one that made her a star. The bubbly newcomer has signed on as a recurring guest star in the upcoming Showtime series The Big C.

The show, which stars Laura Linney and Oliver Platt, is a dark comedy about the Connecticut suburbs. Gabourey will play a wisecracking student at the high school where Linney’s character teaches.

The role just might be the one we’ve all been waiting for her to play. Gabourey’s energy and comedic timing come through in all of her interviews and public appearances, and she herself said she’s been hoping to land a comedy. We’ll have to check it out this summer! (The Futon Critic)
