Daily Dish: A Friends movie is in the works

The successful sitcom is set to hit the big screen in 2011.

Friends Cast

It looks like another New York-based comedy will follow in the footsteps of Sex and the City – a Friends movie is planned for 2011!

James Michael Tyler – better known as the Central Perk’s manager Gunther – broke the news in London, where a Central Perk outpost is set to open.

Friends: The Movie is definitely on,” Tyler said. “I still keep in touch with a lot of the cast and they say that they are really keen.”

The show’s creators, David Crane and Marta Kauffman, are already on board.

The beloved cast has had varying degrees of success since the show ended in 2004. Matt LeBlanc’s spinoff Joey only lasted two seasons, and Courteney Cox has had trouble landing a hit on TV. Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow have had a few hits since Friends, though nothing to match the wildly successful show, while David Schwimmer has gone back to the theater, and Jennifer Aniston has made a splash both in the tabloids and on the big screen.

While the six lead actors have so far been silent about the film, they may be persuaded by the success of the Sex and the City movie, which took in over $400 million.

“The one thing I can tell you is that I am definitely on board to do the film,” Tyler said. “I really enjoyed my time on the show and I am looking forward to meeting up with the old gang again. I just hope we can do justice to the show in a film.” (News of the World)
