Beyond this being gross and disgusting! But what’s truly abysmal about this list is that this is only 10 of the hundreds of nasty, slutty Halloween costumes marketed for our girls. My daughter is 3 and finding a decent costume was so difficult that I gave up and I made her one. I DO NOT look forward to the years we argue about what is an appropriate costume. It’s bad enough that on Halloween my family is forced to see grown women dressed like common whores because that’s what the day has been reduced to but to market it on our young girls (as young as 3 or 4) is just disgusting. I can only imagine that the designers of of all these slutty little girl costumes are pedophiles. It’s gross. How any parent could allow their daughter to simply be a sex object by wearing any of these (or the hundreds of others) is beyond me.

I’m a firm believer in either scary or funny costumes for Halloween. No sexy for me, no sexy for my kids.
That’s not to say that I wouldn’t allow a skirt, but my little girl would be required to wear leggings or tights under that skirt, and none of those shoes would be happening. No way!

I have a 5 year old little girl. Thank god she still wants to be cute things. If she came home with ANY of those costumes before the age of 17 or so, I would beat her with that french maid’s duster. LOL!! Yeah I wore costumes like this when I was 16 and older. At the age of some of these girls I was still putting a sheet over me to be a ghost or being a hobo. The last thing on my mind was to be “sexy”. I think any parent who lets a child under the age of 16 wear one of these outfits needs to completly ashamed of themselves.
Not sure how this is different from any other day of the week. I can’t tell these days if a girl walking down the street is a hooker or just walking to school.

DRESS YOU DAUGHTER LIKE A SLUT???? Dear Lord what is this world coming to? Most of us do our best to make sure are daughters don’t dress like sluts. Which is really difficult when all the stores are making clothing so provacative, even for little children. I guess we all need to break out our mother’s Singers and start going against the flow.

Paulie918…I’m pretty sure April is just as appalled as you are at these costumes. There is a lot of sarcasm in this article, because, as you said, this seems to be “the flow,” and it is pretty gross to a lot of people (including me!).
As gross as the French maid and pirate costumes are, I’m pretty offended by the doctor costume! Do people really think girls won’t want to be doctors unless they get to wear sexy, sparkly outfits? Ugh!
I was my favorite princess, Princess Leia, three years in a row as a kid. The only time she wears a slutty outfit in the Star Wars movies it is against her will. I thought (and still think) she’s a pretty fab role model!

As the mother to boys, I really find these costumes disturbing.
It’s hard enough to teach my sons to respect their female classmates and not objectify them as sexual objects, without girls (and their guardians) perpetuating images of girls as vacuous, trampy and overly sexualized. Sadly the trashy navel-baring clothes aren’t just restricted to Halloween.
Halloween is the night when the honored dead return to receive hospitality from the living, and bless those who are good hosts or punish those who are inhospitable (i.e., “Trick or treat!”). Urging little girls (or even grown women, for that matter) to dress up like slutty housemaids . . . does not make a great deal of sense, and is liable to seriously annoy the ancestors.

Last year my daughter wanted to go as a witch for halloween. Target, Walmart, and Kmart- none of these stores had appropriate halloween custumes for a 3 year old. So I bought an inappropriate costume which she picked out and then black leggings and a long sleeve black top to wear under it (to keep her warm! and covered) it was a compromise. I like the article because shopping last year really made me angry and disgusted. There simply wasn’t a witch costume that was any where near appropriate for anyone who wasn’t at least 18.
My goodness… If I left my parents house in a costume like that, my dad would’ve been calling me a tramp and dragging me back inside to put some “real clothes on”.

This is so absurd but don’t think that boys have escaped bad costumes. True, they aren’t usually sexually provacative costumes, but definitely violent. How about a nice Freddy Kreuger costume for the kindergarten party? Why would you allow your little boy to dress up as a psycho-murderer from a movie that he’s too young to see?? Oh, yeah…you rented him the DVD to enjoy didn’t you?? Oh, and don’t worry…the Freddy costume comes in the slutty girl-teen version, too. Enjoy!!
