The critics have spoken, and they think New Moon is a disappointment.
“Their charisma is by Madame Tussaud,” Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times said of the film’s young actors.

Team Edward, avert your eyes: The Boston Globe’s Ty Burr isn’t kind to your hero.
“When he’s onscreen, Pattinson’s Edward is all emo posturing under a trembling bouffant – the actor suddenly seems to be embarrassed to be here,” Burr said. “Lautner’s performance, by contrast, has the warmth of an actual human.”
Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times said the chemistry between Bella and Jacob just isn’t there: “The connection between these two is so self-evidently non-romantic that it turns out not to be much of a diversion.”
Variety said Edward plays a major part in a huge cliffhanger scene, but his presence is otherwise minimal in this film.
