It’s been exactly one year since Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali were first introduced to the bright lights of Hollywood. And despite the fact that they are no longer poverty stricken, neither child is living like a millionaire.

Rubina Ali is currently staying with her family in a poorly assembled shack in a shantytown beside the Bandra train station. The home has been leveled a total of three times.

Her co-star and good friend Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail was driven out of the Garib Nagar slum when the Railway Authority bulldozed his house, and his father died in September after losing a battle with tuberculosis.

Luckily the adorable (and very talented) actors have found work. They appeared in the same Bollywood film, and Ali was recently featured in commercials alongside Nicole Kidman.

We wish Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail all the happiness in the world. They certainly deserve it. (The New York Daily News)
