In his new movie, Valentine’s Day, Ashton Kutcher plays a florist who can’t wait to propose to his girlfriend, Jessica Alba, on February 14. The 31-year-old star insists he’s just as romantic in real life — even if he did propose to now-wife Demi Moore on April Fool’s Day!

On being a hopeless romantic:
“I love life and I love the people in my life. I love sharing. So, yes, I would qualify myself as romantic. It's about just being there and letting your partner know that every day has romance and not just February 14,” says Ashton. “The interesting thing about love is that you have to give it first and give it unselfishly. It's about wanting to do something for the other person. When you do that and it's right then you will receive the love back.”

On making a relationship work:
“You can't ever relax in a relationship. The work should never stop. A relationship is like being on an escalator. You're going down and the minute you stop taking the steps up then the relationship ends up on the ground floor zero,” says Ashton, who isn’t necessarily a fan of making your loved one a home-cooked meal or surprising them with flowers. "I think those things are nice. But it must come from the heart. When it's calculated, it becomes dangerous.”
