Amanda Seyfried: Choosing Career Over Love?
The Dear John star admits that sometimes work has to come first.
Amanda Seyfried’s career is on fire. But the star of the romantic drama Dear John has had to make some tough choices for her art. “In acting, you have to take a hold of your career before it slips away,” reveals the 24-year-old. “You often have to sacrifice love.” Like her character in Dear John, an idealistic college student who falls for a young soldier only to be separated by war, Amanda’s determined to make long-distance love work. She’s been dating her Mamma Mia! co-star, Dominic Cooper — who lives in London — for over a year. BettyConfidential talked to Amanda about the number one hit, her love life and getting naked on screen.
You recently moved to New York from Los Angeles?
I bought an apartment in the Village but I can’t move in until April. It’s a renovation of an old building.
So that means you’ll be closer to Dominic now.
Yes. Flying 11 hours from L.A. is different than seven hours. It’s nice.
You seem to share a special connection with Channing Tatum, your Dear John co-star, too.
We hit it off right away. I sat in a room with him before we started making the movie and it just felt right. We had chemistry during the read-throughs and it was perfect.
Did it make doing love scenes any easier?
Our first major love scene sort of came up on us so we just had to be more honest. It was great because Channing’s sense of humor is so twisted! He’s playful and honest.
