Italian officials want harsher punishment for the American student.

American student Amanda Knox is currently serving a 26-year sentence in an Italian prison for killing her roommate Meredith Kercher. But some Italian officials are think that isn’t enough, citing “aggravated circumstances.”
“We have to remember poor Meredith in this tragic episode,” one of the Italian prosecutors said. “This was a particularly brutal and horrendous crime, and we are calling for the punishment to fit that crime.”
Prosecutors are hoping for a life sentence, because the murder had no apparent motive. Knox’s family said they are “quite disappointed” by the news.” They plan to appeal her conviction. (Newser)

This seems so excessive, especially given the lack of evidence and the fact that the actual murderer is already in jail.
