The Daily Mail has just confirmed that British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, 40, has committed suicide. A rep at his office says, "It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family."

Not many details have been revealed yet about how or why the fashion icon decided to take his own life. London's Fashion Week is only a few days away, and he was set to have a show revealing his new collection on March 9 at Paris Fashion Week.

McQueen's close friend and the woman who discovered him, Isabella Blow, also committed suicide three years ago, in May 2007, after learning she had ovarian cancer.

It is sad to know McQueen followed in her footsteps. The fashion world has lost a truly great talent. (Daily Mail)
