Dear Debbie,
I am a 58 year old woman, and I have owned my own business for nine years now. I am close to bankruptcy and the economy has just killed my business. My question is, what am I going to do now? I am so sad and scared. Will anyone give me a job at my age? I have a lot of experience from the past, but I'm still older. I feel so lost, please help!
-In Need of Guidance
Dear In Need,
I can only imagine the anxiety you are feeling. Having your own business requires more hard work and dedication than working for a company. You pour your heart and soul into it, and to end up at this place is so defeating. But here's what I recommend: First of all, speak with a Bankruptcy Attorney to ascertain your options. Perhaps a consultation can give you some insight into possible options to keep your business alive. But if your business does indeed succumb to the plight we all seem to be experiencing, then begin looking at companies, like yours, that you could take your significant talents to, and see if you can parlay your experience into a job with a bigger company, with deeper pockets.
I know it seems daunting, particularly at your age, but there's always a solution, if you look for it. I wish you the best of luck. And don't forget to surround yourself with people who love, support and encourage you in positive ways. That's what I would do.
