Have they or haven’t they? That’s been the question since Sunday, when Britain’s News of the World newspaper claimed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had met with lawyers in early December to hash out a deal to split their $333 million fortune and work out who gets custody of their six kids.

According to the newspaper, an announcement of the couple’s separation is to be made soon. While it is hard to believe claims made by a British tabloid, in an era where the National Enquirer can be break true stories about John Edwards’ love child and Tiger Woods’ infidelity, anything is possible, right?

Now, I am not a conspiracy theorist, but if you ask me, there are some signs that not all is as it should be in the Brangelina universe.

1. The couple have not been seen together since January 6. According to the National Enquirer (I am starting to think they might be worthy of a Pulitzer), Brangelina were last seen together at a NYC restaurant called Alto, where they had an explosive argument over a six-hour dinner. The Enquirer claims Brad, 46, planned the dinner as an intervention to persuade Angelina, 34, to seek psychiatric help. (The tabloid alleges that Angie has been battling depression ever since her mom Marcheline’s death three years ago). For the record, the couple were last photographed in public on January 2 (more than three weeks ago).

2. Reps for Brad and Angelina have not issued an official denial of the News of the World story. Hollywood reps often take the easy way out by refusing to comment on their clients’ private lives, but Brangelina’s they have issued statements in the past to deny stories that they deemed to be outright lies. So far, we’ve heard… nothing. Instead, inside sources are working overtime putting their own spin on the story. Some say that the couple haven’t split (People), while others say they have (see New York Post).
