There’s been some debate about whether fashion accessories adorned with brass knuckles—a look made famous by Alexander McQueen’s infamous and in-demand Knuckle Duster Clutch—classify as weapons. Brass knuckle iPhone cases have become de rigueur, though not without their share of problems: You can’t, for example, get one on EBay—they’ve been banned there—and the issues surrounding them have been keeping lawyers busy.

And now there’s this: According to TMZ, former porn star Jenna Jameson got into quite the altercation with Britney Markham, a porn star herself as well as a personal assistant, at a hair salon in Newport Beach, CA on April 6. Threats were allegedly made, and Markham claimed that Jenna punched her in the stomach with her brass knuckle iPhone case. Note that brass knuckles are illegal in California, which could have landed Jenna in a world of trouble.

Orange County won’t be prosecuting her, though; the case was thrown out due to lack of evidence. But if it were true, it brings up an interesting quandary, no? If fashion accessorized designed to LOOK like weapons can actually be used like the weapons they’re imitating, is there any difference than using the weapon in its original form? Actually, come to think of it, it’s an interesting quandary even if it ISN’T true—because it might set a precedent for targeting people with brass knuckle accessories simply for owning them. Rihanna? You might want to be careful where you flash yours. You never know what kinds of ideas a person might get.

I wonder why the issue seems to have blown up so much in the case of iPhone cases? Maybe it’s because they’re more affordable than the McQueen clutches, which can set you back several thousand dollars? Hmmm. Food for thought.
