MTV Movie Award Nominations: Who Will Win the Best Shirtless Performance Award?
The MTV Movie Award nominations for 2013 are out—and there’s a new category! Who do you think should win the award for Best Shirtless Performance?
The Oscars may have ended and the big, showy award shows may be over—but what’s this I spy? The MTV Movie Award nominations! Now that all the pomp and circumstance is over, it’s time for Hollywood to let its hair down and give out the prizes for things like Best Kiss, Best WTF Moment, and Best Scared-As-S***-Performance. Bring it on!
The thing that I find so interesting about the MTV Movie Awards is that even more so than, say, the People’s Choice Awards or what have you, they always consist of this fabulous mix of high-brow and low-brow. Perhaps that’s why Django Unchained did so well, making off with seven nominations: Quentin Tarantino’s films combine grindhouse style with art house appeal. Bear in mind that the MTV Movie Awards are voted upon not by a huge committee of industry professionals, but rather by the public, so if you want in on the action, click here to cast your votes.
What’s notable this year is the inclusion of a brand-new category: Best Shirtless Performance. I’ve no doubt this award was created in honor of Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, whose shirts mysteriously seem to self-destruct the moment they touch him, leaving his torso remarkably unscathed; indeed, Team Jacob fans can rejoice, as Taylor has (unsurprisingly) scored one of the five nominations for the award. However, he’s facing some pretty tough competition—Christian Bale for The Dark Knight Rises, Daniel Craig for Skyfall, Channing Tatum for Magic Mike, and Seth MacFarlane for Ted (yes, as an anthropomorphic teddy bear) have all earned nominations as well. Personally, I’m rooting for Daniel Craig, but maybe that’s just me.
The MTV Movie Awards air on April 14 and will be hosted by Rebel Wilson. Check out all of the nominations on the next page. Who do you think should win big? Tell us in the comments!
