Beauty Road Test: POP Beauty’s Revolutionary Peak Performance Mascara
Sick and tired of unwieldy mascara wands? Give POP Beauty’s Peak Performance mascara a try and prepare to be amazed!
Have you ever wished there was a better way to apply mascara than the standard tube-and-wand method? Sure, we’ve seen loads of variations on the same old theme, but have any of those “new and improved” mascara wands actually made it any easier to get long, luscious, and clump-free lashes? Not so much.
Well, have I got something fabulous in store for you: Bettys, meet POP Beauty’s new Peak Performance mascara ($20, ulta.com). It’s about to become your lashes’ new best friend.
This little beauty is, in a word, revolutionary. It ditches the whacko wand we’ve come to expect from our mascara tubes, replacing it with something very different. At first glance, it looks kind of like a marker, except that when you uncap it, you’ll find a slanted comb instead of a felt-tipped Crayola. And that, my friends, is where the magic begins.
The application instructions look a little complicated, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they’re actually pretty intuitive. Instead of holding the tube sideways the way you would a mascara wand, it’s held vertically so that it’s pointed towards your eye with the comb flat across. Give the base of the tube a twist or two until you see the comb fill with mascara; then work the comb through your lashes working from the root to the tip. For a little extra flare, turn the comb vertically use it to fan out the lashes on the outer corners of your eyes. The instructions also recommend that you curl your lashes before applying, but I didn’t find it necessary, so go with whatever your own personal preference is here.
I know, I know—it sounds a lot more difficult than most of us generally like our mascara to be. But it’s much easier than you’d think, and you’ve got much more control over your mascara application to boot. And the results? Well, how do dramatic, megawatt eyes with every lash lifted and defined—AND with no clumps in sight sound? Fab? Because that’s exactly what you’ll get. Love!
I tested POP Beauty’s Peak Performance mascara in good ol’ Brilliant Black (what can I say? Black goes with everything), but if you’d like something a little more unexpected, it’s also available in Cocoa Charm and Inky Indigo. Grab it now at Ulta stores nationwide or online at ulta.com—and get ready to make those peepers pop!
