Your Most Dreaded Household Chore … and The Cure!
Everyone has one task around the house they hate more than all others. Here’s how to make it less painful!

Recently I found myself trying to bribe … MYSELF. Why? Because I couldn’t think of another way to get myself to do a dreaded, hateful chore: putting away two baskets of folded laundry. I know. Could anything be more horrific?! I ended up making a movie date with a girlfriend for later that afternoon and promising myself Raisinets if I powered through the dreaded activity. Luckily I’m easy to bribe.
WHY do I loathe the act of placing folded laundry into drawers? I cannot tell you. I just do. It’s probably the same reason why I hate unpacking my suitcases (much to my husband’s dismay, as I often leave them on the bedroom floor for weeks, perfectly happy to continue living out of them rather than empty them out!). I don’t hate everything about laundry; I kind of enjoy the folding part, and I recently discovered those little one-shot laundry soap thingies that make the washing part even easier (no measuring, no liquid mess). But the putting away …. aughghghgh. Not enough chocolate in the world!
My little episode got me thinking: what household jobs do other people hate? And what — short of bribing ourselves — can help us with our torturous tasks? After all, a girl can only eat so many chocolate covered raisins!
By querying my friends via email and Facebook, I found out a few things: I’m not the only person with laundry-related phobias; everyone has a chore they particularly hate around the house; and there are ways of making this easier! These tricks seemed to fall into a three categories, work smart, make it fun, and delegate….
