10 Reasons I Can't Wait to Go to the Winter Olympics

Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics are upon us … and I’ll be there for the last weekend, blogging all about it from the Proctor and Gamble Family Home in the Olympic Village. I'll be part of a four-member team participating in the ThankYouMom.com program (check out Mom Trends, Alpha Mom, and Extraordinary Mommy who will take turns in Vancouver before I get there). Obviously, I’m soooo excited. Here are the top 10 reasons why I can’t wait to go:

1. Did you SEE the opening ceremonies?
If you didn’t, head on over to the NBC site for a recap – so beautiful. The spectacle! The snow! The fire and ice! The KD Lang singing Halleluiah! The torchbearers! I loved every minute of it, and I can’t wait to participate in some small way in all that pure human gorgeousness.

2. Inspiration.

Lindsey Vonn

In a fit of delusion optimism I let my runner friend talk me into signing up for the Sonoma Napa half-marathon next July. I figured it would be a great excuse to make a trip to my homeland of California AND if anything could convince me to run more than a couple of miles in a row, it would be the promise of a wine festival at the finish line (oh how I love you, Cali). But, it's been a couple of months since I paid my registration fee and, well, let's just say at this rate I'll be ready to run the 13.1 miles by the times I'm, oh about 80. I'm pretty sure coming face to face with some people who are not only kick ass athletes but who are in living life in pursuit of passion and their dreams will kick-start my own fitness goals. If that doesn’t do the trick, surely nothing will!

3. I can practice my Canada jokes! Like this one …

ThankYouMomHow does Wayne Gretsky stay cool?

He sits next to his fans!

HAHAHA!

And when all else fails I can just say “eh” all the time. I’m sure the Canadians will love me!

OK, OK, I’m kidding. But I am really looking forward to visiting Vancouver and exploring a little bit. I hear it’s beautiful … eh?

4. Two words: RED MITTENS.

red mittens

They may be sold out online at the official Vancouver Olympics store, but I’ll be prowling the streets of Vancouver, ready to pounce as soon as I see a pair for sale. Must. Have. Red. Torchbearer. Mittens!
