Rea View Elementary students were on a class trip Wednesday and when it came time for a Civil War lesson Ian Campbell – who is black – chose three black children to play cotton picking slaves. Parents were especially outraged about the kids having to wear bags used for gathering cotton around their necks.
Campbell says that he was attempting to be historically correct, not politically correct.
The “lack of sensitivity,” as the Union County school district put it, prompted parents to schedule a meeting with school administrators Friday morning to discuss the concern. (WSOC Charlotte)
