Faced with a cold-footed fiancé who jilted her a day before her wedding, Teanne Harris of Chicago decided to turn her Halloween-themed reception into lemonade by instead throwing a party for local senior citizens.

After being told by the catering hall that they wouldn’t be able to get a refund, Harris and her mother looked across the street to the Asbury Court Retirement Community and decided that the money wouldn’t go to waste.

"She came in one day and said she wanted to make a donation," said Mary Eichenfeld, the resident services director. "I don't think she knew anybody here, and we don't get offers like that. So we were thrilled and so were our residents. It came out of the blue."

Although the party was considered a great success by all who attended, it was an emotional experience for Harris to attend her own reception without having gotten married, her mother told CBS.

"She came to the party and while I saw her smiling, I'm sure she was feeling pretty bad," said Eichenfeld.

Harris, herself, was unavailable to comment; she was en-route on Sunday to Hawaii for what would have been her honeymoon. (NY Daily News)
