The Bettys Weigh in on SkinnySongs

Dance your way to a better body!

-The Bettys

SkinnySongsHas keeping the pounds off proven to be more than a challenge? Is yo-yo dieting and being unable to slip into your favorite jeans getting you down? That's precisely why venture capitalist Heidi Roizen founded SkinnySongs, which offers likeable, can't-get-out-of-your-head inspirational songs for weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

Here's what our Betty testers thought of this groundbreaking collection of motivational tunes:

Julie:

The first thing I thought when I began listening to SkinnySongs was: I can't believe no one ever thought of this before. Because really, we know how motivating music can be to workouts with the right beat and pulse, why not add inspiring words too? Brilliant. I love the tunes and the catchy lyrics that get stuck in my head on repeat, which isn't a bad idea when I'm considering eating another bowl of ice cream and "Think I'll Go to Saks" pops into my head. Then I'm picturing myself in the latest jeans and the ice cream just doesn't seem so appealing.

Stephanie:

As a lifelong dieter and a lifetime Weight Watcher member, these songs are fun and inspiring! My faves are "Who The Hell Is That?" with the lines: "Who the hell is that" and "How'd I get so fat." The other song I love is "Use It To Lose It" which is kind of a rap-jam:

"You say you don't want no gut,
Wanna have no big butt
Well then get outta yo rut
Come on ya'll let's make that cut!"

Some songs sound a little bit country, some are rappy, some are head-bopping and some are 'get-on-the-treadmill-and-run-yo-ass-off' motivational! The lyrics make you laugh out loud and they'll definitely make you NOT want to reach for a piece of chocolate cake!

Confession: I avoided listening to this CD until the last possible minute. I was sure I wouldn't like it ... it just sounded SO not up my alley. But ... I LOVE SKINNYSONGS! First of all, the music on its own is really excellent -- totally pumpin' -- just what I need at the gym. But the LYRICS ... brilliant! Down to earth, humorous and seriously inspirational. The songs are unabashedly about the things that I think about all the time. It manages at once to LAUGH at the trials and tribulations we go through to be skinny (or skinnIER), and also take the whole thing seriously in a GIRL GET UP AND MOVE! sort of way. There's just the right amount of silliness combined with butt-kicking motivation. Love it! My favorite lyric:

"I really wanna be THIN! I don't deny it!"

First of all, I think I lost a few pounds just clawing at the packaging! Seriously, we can create TiVo but easy-open shrink wrap is just too out there? But back to the topic at hand; though I was definitely a little hesitant about popping this into my CD player, within the first 10 seconds I felt my hips swaying side to side and my fingers tap-tap-tapping. The SkinnySongs tunes are cleverly written with phrases like "Skinny jeans skinny jeans/you're still hanging ‘round/in the back of my closet and that's bringin' me down/this morning I woke up and made me a vow/skinny jeans, gonna get back, into you somehow..." It's an inspirational collection full of get off the couch and dance beats. I know my thighs will certainly be benefiting from this album!

Paige:

After having a baby two months ago - and desperately trying to lose the baby weight - SkinnySongs couldn't have arrived on my doorstep at a better time. I'll admit I was a little skeptical at first, but the upbeat tempo and motivational lyrics kept me moving on my daily walk, with the baby in tow, course.

Carrie:

SkinnySongs is an upbeat, jingly and catchy album ... in the same way that Christian Rock or Kids Songs albums are upbeat, jingly and catchy. You find yourself singing along, then gasping in horror when you realize you're singing lyrics like, "Thin! -- not telling you lies./Thin! -- I want smaller thighs/Thin! -- but I realize/ I guess I'll have to exercise." I'm sure this is inspiring to a lot of women and could be a fantastic addition for those who need extra motivation in their exercise routines. But I prefer my workout music to be less hit-you-over-the-head-with-a-hammer literal. Still, music is one of the best fitness motivators, so sing your heart out with "Skinny Jeans" if it helps you melt those pounds and build that self-esteem.

Mary Beth:

In the spirit of my favorite tune "I Will Survive," SkinnySongs is an awesome way to tune into music that pumps you up and keeps you passionate about being on the weight-loss track. You listen to these songs and you are pumped and determined.
