Members of the Goth set have been rocking this look for years, but is the mainstream ready for black lips? Last year we saw black nails popping up on just about everyone from Ashlee Simpson and Lindsay Lohan to suburban soccer moms, and the color was even going strong throughout the summer. Can the next phase really be the lips?
As with all runway trends, you can adopt bits and pieces to make
them your own, and black lips are no exception - if you have the guts to try it. From the drugstore to the department store, it's easy to go dark if you dare, but Lancôme's new artistic director for makeup, Aaron de Mey has come up with an innovative way to start slow: a low-pigment black gloss. Debuting in November, Piha Black comes as part of a lip color set with Piha Red Color Fever Lipstick so you can decide how dark you're willing to go. Oh, and the black gloss can also double as an eye gloss when you want to dial up the drama and try a new take on the smoky eye.
But here's the hitch: Only 500 of these sets will be available in the United States, so you need to call Bloomingdale's in New York City (212-705-2886) now to get your name on the waiting list. $48
