Woman to Women
"Prince Charming, Wherefore Art Thou?"
How to find a modern-day PC
-Cheryl M. Wenzel-Nelson
What red-blooded American woman doesn't want to spend the rest of her life with a man who's handsome, wealthy, and a gentleman? (Sign me up!) With the rate and intensity that some women throw into the search for their "PC"-cruising bars and clubs, speed dating, online dating-you'd think there was a real prince to be found.
Is there?
The image of a medieval man on a white horse in all of his armor regalia comes to mind. But I doubt there were actually many "charming princes" in those days what with all the poor sanitary conditions, medieval torturing, and conquering going on.
The idea of Prince Charming originated from a fable called "The Story of Pretty Goldilocks" in which the suitor (who - mind you - was a courtier, not a prince) won the favor of a princess after performing various feats for her. The idea stuck. Suddenly every woman wanted a handsome, wealthy man who would do anything for her (and who was clean!).
That was a fairy tale. But there is a real life PC living in the 21st century. He participates in raising his children, "slays dragons" to help pay the bills, goes grocery shopping, and cooks barbeques. He's not perfect, but he'll make a better mate than a medieval man.
So how do you find your Millennial Man?
- Stop kissing frogs. Don't put "Finding PC" on your to-do list. Just have fun! And when an opportunity rises to meet someone new, go for it without analyzing too much (before, during, and after you meet).
- Look for compatibility, not perfection. Let's face it - your PC may not be chivalrous, wealthy, or willing to fight battles for you. But he should be loving, caring, and have the potential to be a good husband and father. That's what you REALLY want. Put those at the top of your priority list and you will start to draw the real PCs to you.
