Fashion Week organizers have banned under-16s from the catwalk after outrage over plans to use a 14-year-old model.

Polish teenager Monika Jagaciak was set to appear at the event in Sydney, Australia, at the end of this month.

The teenager has fronted a campaign for French fashion house Hermes and has been photographed in a swimsuit being sprayed by a shower.

Vogue magazine, who had originally planned to feature Monika on their Fashion Week cover, dropped the idea when the editor discovered she was only 14.

Editor Kirstie Clements, who has daughters the same age, called for all models at the event to be aged 16 years and older.

Yesterday, organizers bowed to pressure and said they had revised their industry policy "in light of industry and community concern regarding the acceptable age for models".

Fashion Week founder Simon Lock said the event was happy to adapt its policies at the community's request.

He added: "Policies are constantly reviewed by the Australian Fashion Week's industry advisory board.

"This is to ensure the event best serves the industry and reflects attitudes towards issues surrounding the fashion industry."

The New South Wales government had said they were "comfortable" with the idea.
